A big, bold Imperial rye porter with oak chips for soaking in spirits and imparting a barrel-aged flavor, Temple of Rye is an old recipe we've had here at Great Fermentations for awhile. We first brewed this about five years ago when we had a Templeton Rye Whiskey barrel to age the beer in. After picking up the rye whiskey and barrel-aged character, the beer was a huge hit! We've decided to pull this recipe out of the archives for our Brewer's Reserve series, packaging it with some American medium toast oak chips that you can soak in spirits and age the beer on to recreate a spirit barrel character! The recipe incorporates rye to give it a bit of a spicy edge that blends well with the other specialty grains to give this a velvety smooth finish! This is a beer that can be aged in the bottle or keg, so have a few now and put a few back for later!
