One of the most critical steps when brewing, is to get your boiling wort down to yeast pitching temps quickly. The quicker you can chill your wort, the less susceptible it will be to contaminants that can infect your beer and result in unhappy drinkers. An immersion chiller is a great solution to this challenge for the homebrewer, and hands down is the best upgrade a beginning brewer can make to their setup. Immersion chillers work via the process of heat exchange: cold water is run through the copper tubing, which is submersed in the hot wort. The cold copper in turn removes heat from your wort. Depending on how cold the water is running through the copper tubing, you can feasibly chill your wort in 15 minutes! Simple and effective.

Our Small Immersion Wort Chiller is made from 12.5 feet of 3/8" copper tubing, and is great for batch sizes of 1 to 3 gallons. To use, place the wort chiller into your brew pot during the last 15 minutes of the boil (keep the vinyl tubing outside of the pot and away from your heat source). Once you boil has finished, connect the water-in tube to a standard garden hose or utility faucet, and place your water-out tube in a drain or bucket. Next, just turn on your water (the slower the water flow, the better) and watch your wort cool down fast!

The wort chiller comes pre-assembled and contains the following:

  • (2) 4' lengths of clear vinyl tubing
  • (3) strong stainless steel hose clamps
  • (1) Heavy duty female swivel garden hose fitting with 3/8" barb

Approximate Chiller Dimensions: 6.5" overall diameter, 13.5" inlet/outlet height

Pleasantly surprised with the results
I do 1 gallon test and experiment batches and was looking for a small chiller to cool down my wort. When this arrived I was little concerned with how small 12.5 feet actually is. After the first use all concerns were out the window - this cooled my wort faster, much faster, than any of the other devices I used on my bigger brews. One word of advice - double check the clamps on the in and out tubes. On the first batch when the tubing got heated up I had a small leak forming from water in tube. A quick bend of the copper to have the tube hanging over the out side of the boil pot fixed it immediately.
