The first in our Local Series line of beer kits, we are happy to partner with Jonathon Mullens at the Broad Ripple Brewpub, Sugar Creek Malts and Crazy Horse Hops to make this local take on a British classic! This beer exclusively uses malts from Sugar Creek Malting Company, including malted heirloom Bloody Butcher corn, for a truly unique beer unlike anything else you will be able to get out there...except at the Broad Ripple Brewpub, where a macro version of this recipe went on tap! We also incorporate locally-produced hops from Crazy Horse Hops. We also recommend a selection of regional yeasts from Omega Yeast Labs, just up the interstate in Chicago. For the true Broad Ripple Brewpub experience, brewer Jonathon Mullens recommends using the Omega Yeast Labs OYL016 British Ale VIII yeast strain, as this is the yeast he and our brewer Wes pitched during their collaboration brew. This Extra Special Bitter (which we refer to as "ISB" around here), unlike it's namesake, isn't overly bitter, and is a well-balanced British ale with caramel notes and a nice richness that make it very sessionable. Raise a pint of this, no matter what your locale...Cheers!
