Tha CommUNITY is a beer we can all get behind! This is one of the official homebrew recipes for Big Brew 2022 and was contributed by South Carolina homebrewer April Dove, a.k.a. The Traveling Hoptista. In 2021, Dove started a multi-brew initiative to offer a more diverse and inclusive taproom experience throughout the tri-county Charleston region. These efforts led her to release an American lager (Tha CommUNITY) in partnership with Holy City Brewing and become the first Black woman to do so. This recipe is light and refreshing, and is an approachable first step into lagering because of the simplicity of the fermentation schedule. However, you can also brew this beer using Lutra Kveik yeast at higher ale temperatures for a very lager-like final product!
