London Ale yeast from White Labs is a great all-around choice for several different British ales! While less flocculant than some of White Labs' British strains, it nevertheless leaves a complexity that has been described by brewers and White Labs alike as "oakey." This comes from some unique esters produced by the yeast during fermentation. London Ale has garnered quite a few fans by quickly producing high-quality British ales that have a good complexity that allows hops to shine through. Some brewers have reported hints of smoke coming through with the oak character, which would make it ideal for an old ale or barrel aged porter or stout. However, it has also found use in many classic British styles, such as bitters, IPAs, ESBs, and pale ales.
